There’s a surprising amount of planning and work to achieve beautiful wedding images, so I want to share some tips on how to capture the prettiest wedding flat lay photos! Sometimes brides don’t know where to begin and don’t even know what they want until they find inspiration. When we start seeing options is usually when we can decide whether or not we like something. That’s also when we start figuring out our style and taste in design. But we can’t forget what’s trending and how to have a beautifully photographed wedding.

What is a wedding flat lay?

One detail that is often overlooked is capturing the fine bridal details. This is a great way to know the bride behind the scenes and what some of her interests are. Wedding flat lay is a composition of a variety of items that lays flat on a surface and taking a photo from above. In this case, a wedding flat lay showcases a snapshot of important accessories, stationery and other personal items to the bride on her wedding day.

No two wedding flat lays will ever look the same. Usually, your photographer may already have some flat lay objects to use for this type of shot or may even find items that are present in the room to make your wedding flat lay unique. But if you’re wanting something that is more personalized, you may want to purchase items of your own. These items include but not limited to:

• Wedding Stationery: Invitations, save-the-date, envelopes, RSVP Card, menu card or any other paper inserts, and vow books.
• Wedding Rings: Bride & Groom’s wedding bands & engagement rings, ring box or ring dish/tray.
• Flowers & Greenery: Wedding bouquet, single flowers, loose accent flower heads, or flower petals.
• Trinkets: Any unique items to make your flat lay special, but don’t go overboard! One or two pieces will be enough. Simplicity is what makes the image as you don’t want to take away the focus from the items that are most important. These items include, vintage stamps, wax stamps & stamper, antique mirrors, vintage hangers, family heirlooms, handkerchiefs, etc.)
• Shoes & Accessories: Earrings, bracelets, necklaces, hair pieces, wedding veil, watch, cufflinks, shoes, ties, perfume bottles.
• Ribbons: Silk ribbons, ribbon spool, or anything to use as a filler in spaces and to add texture. Ask your wedding gown seamstress for your scraps during your alterations.
